Everybody raves about Essence lip liners, at least about their old ones. I think this Soft Contouring line is fairly new and I heard that the formula is not so creamy like their old one was. I was standing before the Essence stand a couple of times and I never saw any interesting shades, meaning some nice nude or brown ones. I'm not sure if they were sold out or I just missed them. In the end, I chose this dark red shade, which didn't seem so dark in the store and I probably won't wear it lots, but I still wanted to test the formula.
It is a classic slim lip pencil that you have to sharpen. It comes with a cap. The pencil is in the shade of the actual lip liner shade and the writing on it is silver. You also have a number and name of the shade on the top part of the pencil. If I'm not mistaken it costs 1,69€ and you get 1,2g of product.
The shade deeply intoxicated is a deep red with some burgundy tones. The formula is quite creamy, but I feel I would like the old one better, like I said, supposedly it was creamier. It is okay pigmented. The formula is quite similar to the Kiko's one, but Kiko lip pencil seems more drying on the lips. It does emphasize dry patches. When I first apply it, it feels creamy, but still a bit dry, later it gets more comfortable, I can't really feel it on the lips when I wear it.
It is a bit weird since it is a lip pencil, which should keep a lipstick from smudging, but I did notice it can bleed a bit and smudge around the edges. It doesn't last long. If you're careful and if you don't eat or drink it can last for a few hours, maybe two or three, but it won't survive eating. It does transfer.
I'm not a big fan of the lip liner, maybe I expected a bit too much. I would like the formula to be creamier, even though it is very comfortable to wear. I like my lip products to stay in place so I don't have to worry that it would smudge everywhere, especially with this kind of shades, but with this one, I can't be sure, so I just don't wear it. Maybe I should try another shade and see if it's any better. According to their website, they also have two new ranges of lip liners. In one range, the lip liners are actually colour-matched to Essence lipsticks, I will definitely check them out.
Thank you for reading!
