In this year, Essence launched a new line of face products, called You Better Work!. The products are supposed to be waterproof, gym proof and have an SPF 20. I was sent one product from the line to review. It's You Better Work! Tinted Day Cream. Essence says the cream has a matte effect and that it creates a natural "no-makeup look". They are marketing this as a tinted day cream that can replace the foundation. The cream comes in a tube that holds 30ml of product and costs around 3-4€. The nozzle does get very messy so you will have to clean it often.
There are only two shades available, I got the shade 10 light that is not light at all. It is darker than all of my foundations and it looks orange, for me, it still works because it blends very well into the skin and it's not noticeable.
The formula of the cream is lightweight and slightly moisturizing. It is easy to blend. I did notice it starts to build up and roll (I can't remember the proper word so hopefully you know what I'm trying to say) if I use it with my fingers. The first time that I used it I applied it with fingers and I hated it, I immediately washed it from my face and I didn't touch it for a few days. But then I used it with a sponge and I did like it, it blends nicely, the coverage is very light and it is buildable. The effect is not really matte like they say, it has some sheen to it. I do like the finish right after the application and when I set it with powder, it looks healthy and very natural. I have dry skin with an oilier top layer of the skin and I do get shiny on my forehead quite quickly, quicker than by my other foundations. It doesn't stay the whole day on me, after about half a day it's already faded.
I also tried it during a workout and I didn't notice anything special, my skin actually started to look oilier quicker and at the end, I think my other foundations perform better during a workout session.
Thank you for reading!
