Stay 8h Matte Lipstick is a new product from the spring/summer 2020 update from Essence. In last year's update Essence had amazing matte lipsticks, called Mad About Matte, and I don't know why didn't they just keep those. The lipstick comes in a nice packaging but I did prefer the old one. It contains just 3ml of product and costs about 3-4€. You can see the shade of the lipstick on the packaging. The applicator is big and flat, I don't like it, it's a bit harder to precisely apply the lipstick.
The formula is thin and quite opaque. It will not cover your lips in one simple coat, you will need a bit more. I always used it without the lip pencil and it didn't bleed. It's a very dry formula. It dries down completely after about 5 minutes and it's good for half an hour to an hour but later it gets too dry for me and I have to take it off. It also emphasizes all the lines on my lips. You can see on Essence's Instagram posts how freaking dry these look. The lipstick has the same cookie-dough-like scent that I love.
There are five shades available, they all seem to be in nude-mauve tones. I got the shade 05 Date Proof. It's darker mauve pink that looks gorgeous on the lips.
Essence is known to sometimes just repackage the products and keep the formula but I'm pretty sure that these matte lipsticks have a different formula. I really liked their last version but this one I can't wear for more than an hour. I assume is pretty long-lasting, I tried to remove the swatches from my hand and it took me a while with a regular makeup remover and it left a stain. I also tested the matte version from Catrice and, for now, I like it better, so maybe go for that one instead if you fancy a new matte lipstick.
