Rijeka is Croatian third largest city and it was on my bucket list for some time now. When my boyfriend and I took a trip to Novi Vinodolski we also decided to stop there. The weather was not really on our side, it was rainy and gloomy but we still wanted to explore the city.
First, we took a walk through the port. I wish the weather would be better but I still enjoyed the view.
Then, we followed the road and went to the main promenade where you have some of the most popular shops like Zara etc. You can also see some famous buildings like the clock Korzo and The St. Vitus Cathedral.
I was so impressed with the city, everywhere that I went, there were beautiful old buildings, architecture lovers will really enjoy them. I also suggest taking a stroll along Mrtvi kanal (Dead Channel), where you can see small boats from Rijeka. The autumnal scenery was amazing.
Don't forget to check some local souvenir shops and get yourself something nice.
This is a must-see in Rijeka if you like technology - a museum of old computers, other technology, and retro games. You can see old monitors, keyboards, radios, phones, cameras, consoles and you can actually play some retro games like Super Mario, etc. I highly recommend visiting this place, I think it costs around 5€ and one hour is enough to see the whole place.
For lunch, we chose Submarine Burger and oh my god, it was delicious (and fairly cheap). The whole place was so cozy and warm, and the people were nice, I loved it, 10/10.
For dessert, we went probably to the most popular and instagrammable place in Rijeka - Cacao. We barely got a place to sit, since it was so crowded. Everything there looks picture-perfect, from the tables to the food. I ordered their famous pistachio and raspberry croissant - it was good but nothing special (I'm not usually a big fan of croissants). You also have a wide selection of hot drinks and other desserts to choose from. I got a recommendation for this place but I would actually prefer some place more quiet and cozy.
I really liked Rijeka, it's a beautiful city but I do think I would enjoy it more if it was sunny. If you are traveling around Croatia and have a day or even half a day, visit Rijeka, you won't regret it. Rijeka is a good starting point too because you have a ferry that drives to a few of the Croatian islands.
