Testing Facial Sunscreens (CeraVe, La Roche Posay, Missha, Afrodita)

Testing Facial Sunscreens (CeraVe, La Roche Posay, Missha, Afrodita)
By now, we all know how important sun protection is, it protects from sun damage and prevents skin aging, and most importantly, it prevents skin cancer. We also all know how hard it is to find even a decent facial sunscreen, let alone a perfect one. I have tested quite a few of them in the past two years and I found some that are really good, so I wanted to review them together in a post. I forgot to include my favourite - Garnier Ambre Solaire Protection Fluid - but I have a quick review in this post.

CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM SPF25 and SPF30
I have the SPF25 version from two years ago (I should probably throw it away) but as far as I understand, the SPF30 replaced it. I'm not sure if it's the same formula but this new one feels lighter. It spreads easily and it doesn't leave a white cast. It almost feels like the normal PM version but just a tad creamier. It does get oily through the day, so I guess it's not for those who have oily skin. A big plus is, that it doesn't have any scent to it and it doesn't irritate my skin nor does it break me our. It has a thumbs up from me.

La Roche Posay Anthelios Age Correct SPF50
This was such a pleasant surprise. I was so used to Garnier's fluid sunscreen and this one has a thicker creamier consistency, so I didn't expect much but it's so good. Don't get me wrong, it's not like those old sunscreens that are heavy on the face, but it is a bit harder to apply than Garnier's fluid and you can feel it on your face for a few minutes. After that, it sinks into the skin and it doesn't leave a film, I can't even feel it on my face. It also stays semi-matte throughout the day. With some sunscreens, my skin starts to shine quickly but not with this one. It also didn't break me out. The scent is quite floral but very subtle and pleasant (but you can't smell it through the day). The only downside is the price (the regular price is around 28€) but it's often on sale for around 20€, which is still high if you ask me, but I would say it's worth it. One more thing worth mentioning is also that the cream is formulated to work both ways - to prevent sun damage and to treat sun damage. It contains hyaluronic acid, phenylmethyl resorcinol and niacinamide, which are all ingredients that lighten, treat hyperpigmentation and minimize wrinkles. I have yet to properly test these claims but overall, I do love it.

Afrodita Sun Care Extra Sensitive Facial Sunscreen SPF50
This one is the heaviest out of all of these sunscreens. It feels like a traditional body sunscreen and I can definitely feel it on my skin. It's heavier than the others in this post and it leaves a white cast. It also has that typical sunscreen scent (a pleasant one), which doesn't really bother me and it's not irritating. I tested it a few times but I don't reach for it. Not a fan.

Missha Aqua Sun SPF50 PA++++
As far as I know, there are different versions of this sunscreen and different formulas but I'm not going to get into it because they change it all the time and I just can't keep up. I think this one is the most popular and I get why. The formula is very light - similar to Garnier's Ambre Solaire Fluid - and blends evenly. It doesn't leave a white cast and it doesn't leave a film. My skin does get oily through the day but for a few hours, it's semi-matte. One downside to it - it's fragranced and that does bother me a little. The scent fades away but I'm not sure it's for those with sensitive eyes. It's a bit irritating for me. Also, with sweating or rubbing your eyes, they will surely start to burn. I love the formula but I just can't be bothered worrying if it will sting my eyes the day I wear it or not, especially when wearing makeup (and/or contacts).

If I sum this post up - all of these are worth trying (except for Afrodita's, that one is a no-no for me) - they all feel very light on the skin, like you are not wearing anything. I would say LRP is maybe more for those with oily skin because it stays rather matt compared to others, but the others are good too. You just have to be careful with Missha if you have sensitive eyes. My favs recently - that are perfect in my mind and for my skin - are LRP Anthelios Age Correct and Garnier Ambre Solaire.

Thank you for reading!

*LRP Anthelios Age Correct and CeraVe SPF 30 were sent to me as part of an Instagram collaboration but this post was my idea, as well as my opinion
